Money

• Grinding LeetCode is worth it. You can have high TC, good work life balance, and good coworkers. Similarly you can have low TC, shitty work life balance, and shitty coworkers. The more you grind the more choices you will have.

• A lot of people here make too much money and don’t know how to spend. They save up for a glorious 65 year old retirement or save up $500k for a down payment on a Bay Area shed.You should spend money aggressively and prepare for a modest retirement. Better to have an extravagant youth than have a pointless amount of money in old age.

• Follow your passion, after you’ve made it.

• This issue is not as important as you might think. A less "attractive" person can become more and more attractive to another person when their personality shines through. An "attractive" person can become less and less attractive based if their personality is obnoxious and vice versa in both cases. This goes for men and women.

Job

• If your hiring manager isn't fluent in English, you should avoid at all costs as it's much more likely he or she micromanages.
• If you have kids... Never work for a boss that does not have kids.
• After your first real job, nobody cares which University you went to and anyone who disagrees is a loser
• Don't get so wrapped up in working for someone else. working /really/ hard for someone else has marginal benefit, if any (all day, all night, weekends, etc). usually not i have found (probably more true at G nowadays, of course, but true everywhere imo). only do it if you learn something valuable from it. work hard for /you/.use the extra time to focus on investments and managing your finances. you will make more money that way, easily. no matter what, make time for focusing on investing.you can more easily make good money investing wisely in the markets than following a startup pipedream. been there, done that. yes you can succeed with startups. i know of someone who has first hand, and frankly he's not talented, especially compared to others i've seen fail. recognize that it's like playing the lottery. worth playing, but the odds aren't in your favor, and should be supplemented with something else. it's more of a pursuit of passion than practicality. don't expect it to make you rich. but it may or may not lead to something else (1/2 times it did for me). and you will learn a lot from it.
• Don't let others have complete power over you at work. in the end it is just a job. recognize that money is your way to freedom, and once you obtain it, they have no power over you
• Interview at least every year. Your company has no loyalty to you so why should you to it? Assume you are replaceable soon and don’t ever be surprised.
• Real Promotions and raises come from headcount and budget — not from output and not from efficiently. Hire, hire, hire, and you shall be promoted.
• Don't grind at a job years together to get a measly raise or promotion, move every two years , get better raises and move up fast
• Actively befriend / work with the person at work who everyone else hates. Your leverage over him/her will be tremendous
